YAPC::NA Housing Registration Open

Housing, parking and meal options are now available for purchase in the YAPC::NA 2008 registration system.

This year, all dorm accommodations are in the MSV dorm due to construction at SSV. We have both single and double rooms available. If you register for a double room and wish to allow a roommate to check themselves in, please let Josh or myself know so we can make the appropriate arrangements. Housing registration will close on Friday, May 30th at 11:59 PM CT. After that time, you will have to make alternate arrangements.

The dining cards work the same as in 2006: you can purchase a card at registration that works at the various dining areas on campus. The cards are available in $20 increments. In 2006, we estimated that breakfast would cost approximately $5 per day, lunch $10 per day, and dinner $15 per day. Dinner will be provided on Tuesday.

If you haven't taken the time to register for the conference, you can do that at the same time. It's only $100 for three days of presentations, tutorials and workshops! And for an additional $200, you can register at The Perl Review for two-day master classes as well. It's the best bargain of the conference season!

Master Classes at YAPC::NA 2008

The Perl Review is conducting three master classes at this year's YAPC::NA. Each class is two full days of training on the two days after YAPC, June 19-20, from 9am to 5pm. The price for each class is $200, and you can register for the classes through The Perl Review.

YAPC::NA 2008 Schedule Posted

The YAPC::NA 2008 schedule is officially posted and we have an exciting set of talks this year. Presentations range from Rakudo, the Perl 6 compiler targeting Parrot, to techniques for cleaning up your Perl 5 code and from using Perl for programming social networking sites to stopping malicious software from effecting your systems.

Between the reduced rate of $85 for the three-day conference and the exciting list of talks, how can you not register for YAPC::NA 2008 today.

With exactly two months remaining until YAPC::NA 2008, we are officially opening the payment system for registration to the conference. From now through the end of April, an early-bird price of $85 USD is available for attendees. After that, the registration cost goes up to $100 USD, so if you are looking to save some money on registration, book now! Of course, we are also making the full-price registration available for those who are feeling generous.

Some things to note:

If you are a speaker, DO NOT pay for the conference unless you really really want to. We will be passing out a coupon code sometime in the next few weeks so that you can properly register.

Also, if you are wanting to book on-campus accommodations you'll have to wait a week or so to reserve those; however, you can register and pay for the conference now to take advantage of early bird pricing. The housing registration system will be available very soon. The maintainers of ACT (the system we use to manage the conference) are working hard to create a more robust purchasing component of ACT that will make booking housing easier this year. A lot of this work will be done at next week's ACT hack-a-thon. Please join all of the ACT Hackers in making ACT an even better system for managing YAPC's around the world.

And finally, be sure to get the word out. We want to make this one of the best YAPC::NA's to date and to do that we need attendees! Tell your friends. Tell your boss. Tell your local PM group or LUG. YAPC::NA 2008 is almost here!

Initial talk acceptances sent out

If you submitted a proposal for YAPC::NA 2008, please check your email. We have sent out the initial wave of talk acceptance notices. If you received one, please take a moment to confirm your talk by using the link provided.

We would like to release the schedule by Friday, but we need to have most of the talks confirmed in order to do so. Please confirm your talks today! You can do this by editing your talk and checking the "Confirmed" box at the bottom, then saving it. Please also take the time to confirm your abstract and other talk information.

If you are unable to give your talk, please get in contact with myself or Josh McAdams and let us know, so we can arrange to have the time slot filled. Thanks!

Call For Participation Is Over

The call of participation for YAPC::NA 2008 has officially closed. We'd like to thank all of submitters who contributed well over 100 talks for consideration. We are hard at work going through the proposals and will be getting in contact with potential speakers soon.

If you didn't get your submission done in time, you can still submit a lightning talk. The call for lightning talks will open closer to conference time.

Last Day To Submit Talk Proposals

Today is the last day that we will be accepting proposals for talks for YAPC::NA 2008. If you were planning on submitting a talk, but have been putting it off, don't wait any longer! We aren't going to be too strict about turning off the submissions system at exactly midnight tonight, but the end is near.

The League of Professional System Administrators has teamed up with YAPC::NA 2008 and is requesting that members submit papers to YAPC. If you are a member of another organization that has members that make use of Perl, please let them know that we would love to hear from them and see some Perl papers from new and interesting people and places.
