YAPC::NA Housing Registration Open

05/08/08 15:30 by Pete Krawczyk (‎sachmet‎)

Housing, parking and meal options are now available for purchase in the YAPC::NA 2008 registration system.

This year, all dorm accommodations are in the MSV dorm due to construction at SSV. We have both single and double rooms available. If you register for a double room and wish to allow a roommate to check themselves in, please let Josh or myself know so we can make the appropriate arrangements. Housing registration will close on Friday, May 30th at 11:59 PM CT. After that time, you will have to make alternate arrangements.

The dining cards work the same as in 2006: you can purchase a card at registration that works at the various dining areas on campus. The cards are available in $20 increments. In 2006, we estimated that breakfast would cost approximately $5 per day, lunch $10 per day, and dinner $15 per day. Dinner will be provided on Tuesday.

If you haven't taken the time to register for the conference, you can do that at the same time. It's only $100 for three days of presentations, tutorials and workshops! And for an additional $200, you can register at The Perl Review for two-day master classes as well. It's the best bargain of the conference season!

YAPC::NA 2008 Schedule Posted

04/26/08 02:30 by Josh McAdams (‎jmcadams‎)

The YAPC::NA 2008 schedule is officially posted and we have an exciting set of talks this year. Presentations range from Rakudo, the Perl 6 compiler targeting Parrot, to techniques for cleaning up your Perl 5 code and from using Perl for programming social networking sites to stopping malicious software from effecting your systems.

Between the reduced rate of $85 for the three-day conference and the exciting list of talks, how can you not register for YAPC::NA 2008 today.

Conference Map

04/21/08 01:26 by Josh McAdams (‎jmcadams‎)

Purchase Your Conference Ticket Now!

04/17/08 01:58 by Josh McAdams (‎jmcadams‎)

With exactly two months remaining until YAPC::NA 2008, we are officially opening the payment system for registration to the conference. From now through the end of April, an early-bird price of $85 USD is available for attendees. After that, the registration cost goes up to $100 USD, so if you are looking to save some money on registration, book now! Of course, we are also making the full-price registration available for those who are feeling generous.

Some things to note:

If you are a speaker, DO NOT pay for the conference unless you really really want to. We will be passing out a coupon code sometime in the next few weeks so that you can properly register.

Also, if you are wanting to book on-campus accommodations you'll have to wait a week or so to reserve those; however, you can register and pay for the conference now to take advantage of early bird pricing. The housing registration system will be available very soon. The maintainers of ACT (the system we use to manage the conference) are working hard to create a more robust purchasing component of ACT that will make booking housing easier this year. A lot of this work will be done at next week's ACT hack-a-thon. Please join all of the ACT Hackers in making ACT an even better system for managing YAPC's around the world.

And finally, be sure to get the word out. We want to make this one of the best YAPC::NA's to date and to do that we need attendees! Tell your friends. Tell your boss. Tell your local PM group or LUG. YAPC::NA 2008 is almost here!

Call for Participation

02/15/08 00:42 by Josh McAdams (‎jmcadams‎)

The Chicago Perl Mongers are excited to officially open the call for participation for YAPC::NA 2008. To submit your proposal, visit http://yapc.org/America, create an account, and let us know what you'd like to talk about. Submissions will be accepted through March 15th 2008, so get yours in soon.
We are currently accepting proposals for conference talks with durations of 20, 45, 70, and 95 minutes. These talks can be directed at any level of Perl programmer, from the noobies to seasoned Perl veterans. If you want to show off an amazing hack or new framework that youve been involved with, this could be your chance. Possibly you just want to contribute to the community by giving an introductory talk on regular expressions or subroutines; we intend on having something for everyone this year.
If 20 minutes is a too intimidating for you right now or if you just dont have enough material to fill up that much time, dont fret, well be opening the call for lighting talks soon. These 5-minute mini-presentations are a great way to get a quick point across and to get some experience in presenting in front of a crowd. Keep watching this news source for more information about the lighting talks.
This year we are also planning on introducing more hands-on workshop-style tracks to the conference. These sessions will typically be a little longer than a normal presentation and will be much more informal. During the workshops, conference attendees will be able to interact with presenters to actually do things like compile Parrot or create a hello world program in Perl 6. If you are involved in a project and would like to host a workshop, please contact Josh McAdams directly at joshua dot mcadams at gmail dot com.
